Az 1956 novemberében a jugoszláv nagykövetségről titokban Romániába szállított, s ott elkülönített Nagy Imre-csoport politikusainak és családtagjaiknak rabságát rekonstruálja ez az írás. A sok dokumentumtól, idézettől, a lezárt szerkezettől, a látszólag szenvtelen előadásmódtól azt hihetnénk, hogy tudományos művet olvasunk, de a szövegen átüt a személyes érintettség, a keserűség.
Edith Eva Eger egy Kassán élő 16 éves tehetséges, táncművésznek készülő ambiciózus kislány volt. 1944-ben azonban a nácik családjával együtt az Auschwitzba zakatoló vonatra tuszkolták fel többedmagával. Medieval Toledo is famous as a center of Arabic learning and as a home to sizable Jewish, Muslim, and Christian communities. Yet its cathedral—one of the largest, richest, and best preserved in all of Europe—is little known outside Spain. They all toured Scotland and left accounts of their experiences in Scottish inns, ale houses, taverns and hotels. Similarly, poets and writers from Robert Burns and Walter Scott to Ian Rankin and Irvine Welsh have left vivid descriptions of the pleasures and pains of Scottish drinking places. Pubs also provided public spaces for occupational groups to meet, for commercial transactions, for literary and cultural activities and for everyday life and work rituals such as births, marriages and deaths and events linked with the agricultural year.
There are no clear demarcation lines between magic, astrology, necromancy, medicine, and even sciences in the pre-modern world. Under the umbrella term’magic,’the contributors to this volume examine a wide range of texts, both literary and religious, both medical and philosophical, in which the topic is discussed from many different perspectives. The fundamental concerns address issue such as how people perceived magic, whether they accepted it and utilized it for their own purposes, and what impact magic might have had on the mental structures of that time.
Sport during Cold War has recently begun to be studied in more depth. Some scholars have edited a book about the US and Soviet sport diplomacy and show ow the government of these two countries have used sport during this period, notably as a tool of’soft power’during the Olympic games. Our goal is to continue in this direction and to focus more on the sport field as a place of exchanges during the Cold War. Regarding this point, our aim is to show that there were events’beyond boycotts’many and that unknown connections existed inside sport.
A szerző a Firenzei Nemzeti Levéltárban véletlenül bukkant rá egy iktatócédulára, amely annak a pernek a dokumentumait tartalmazta, amelyet a vellanói Benedetta Carlini nővér, a pescai teatínus apácák főnökasszonya ellen folytattak. Az iratok tartalmazták az apáca látomásait vizsgáló jelentések és feltárták egy másik apácához fűződő viszonyát is. Az értékes dokumentumot dolgozza fel és mutatja be a könyvében a szerző, és sokat megtudhatunk belőle arról, hogy milyen volt a nők helyzete az újkor előtti Európában.
1956-nak nemcsak a konkrét történelmi leírása érdekes, hanem a személyes történetek is. Ezekből ajánlunk most néhányat.
